Email our PastorBro. Bill Poyner
Bill Poyner, a native of Dexter, MO, has served churches in Louisiana and Tennessee. Bill became a Christian at age 8 and was ordained as a deacon at the First Baptist Church in Dexter at age 21. Surrendering to the gospel ministry in 1983, ordained in 1987, he graduated from Union University that same year and from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1992.
He serves Covenant in other roles such as minister to senior adults and our new home-bound ministry. He lives in Collierville with his wife Beth, whom he married in 1980, and their two sons, Bradley and Christopher.
On his days off, he enjoys working in and around the house and yard. His hobbies include fishing, golf, and walking. He really enjoys being a father, especially when he can watch his sons in various sports! But he also enjoys listening to just about any kind of music: hymns, praise and worship songs, and Southern Gospel, of course, but also jazz, Dixieland and Big Band!
Bill’s vision for the Music Ministry at Covenant: “To be the best we can be for God as we lead in worship each week. God has given us a talented group of musicians. Along with leading each week in worship, we present seasonal musicals. We have a blended style of worship: singing traditional hymns along with the Praise and Worship choruses. The choir uses a vast array of musical styles, for example: songs of Sandy Patti, Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, and the ‘old faithfuls.’ The Youth Choir, Children’s Choir, and the Adult Handbell ensemble further enhance our musical worship at Covenant.”
